Dessert Goals Alumni Feature: Amborella Organics
When did you attend Dessert Goals?
Yes! 2018 + 2019 LA
How did you get your start?
Daydreaming in the garden about time spent growing tomatoes with grandma and how these connections are invaluable. This translated into a thought- how can we create a material good that fosters this experience? A lollipop looks a lot like a flower- the thought continued. What if a lollipop could grow a flower! The world’s first seed-bearing lollipop was born. Eat your lollipop, plant your biodegradable stick made of recycled paper, grow a herb or flower.
In three words, how would you describe your brand?
Seed-Bearing, Organic Candy, Sustainable
What’s your favorite treat to make on your menu? And why?
We just launched a new line called Permission to Pause. The first in this line is a flavor called Immunity Entourage and it contains elderberry, astragalus, ginger, and cinnamon. The sticks contain positive affirmations- you are healthy, you are strong, you are effervescent. It feels timely and it’s so delicious!
What’s the best dessert you’ve ever eaten?
Oh man. I am a sucker for tiramisu.
Where do you find your inspiration for creating new treats?
We love putting a unique spin on things and I think it’s because it’s what we look for and value ourselves in products. In someways it feels like that’s complicated our business and in other ways it gives us wings to fly.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a food business?
Don’t create something that already exists. Find your unique spin!
