Safer At Home Celebrations
As shelter in place continues in most cities, plans for birthday parties, anniversaries, graduations, baby showers, weddings, father’s day, etc. have all altered. Not cancelled, just changed! We all deserve to celebrate, especially with desserts. So if you’re planning a “safer at home” celebration for yourself, or a friend or family, we’ve rounded up some ideas and desserts shipping nationwide.
Order Dessert Delivery and #ShopSmall
Any celebration deserves a special treat! If your friend/family/YOU are more of a cookie/chocolate/candy person, we have something for everyone. Take this opportunity to support a small business who could use the orders right now. It’s a win-win, you #shopsmall and get a delicious dessert. Here are a few suggestions of #dessertgoalsalumni vendors who are shipping nationwide and would make a great quarantine celebration dessert!
Organize A Fun Experience
Many celebrations have turned to Zoom as a hub to connect family and friends, which is a great place to start, but kick the party up a level with an experience! You could all attend an Airbnb Experience at the same time, take a workout class, play a Jackbox game or have a rom com movie watch party.
If you want to stick with a more casual “hang”, you can give the gathering a theme, the same way you would for an IRL party. Create invites on Paperless Post or Canva and tell your guests to dress in a certain color or decade. You can send our virtual backgrounds to fit the theme, or our Dessert Goals virtual backgrounds so everyone can showcase their favorite dessert. Creating a slideshow of photos or a short video and screen sharing with everyone makes for a special experience. Snap Camera brings the magic of Snapchat lenses to your video chats and will create some serious laughs.
Priya Parker’s podcast and newsletter have many fun ideas to enhance your virtual gatherings. One unique ideas is to utilize the breakout rooms of a Zoom call and name them areas of a house, like kitchen and living room, and send your friends into the different rooms for more small group mingling. This avoids those awkward moments with 20 people all smiling and waving and no one saying anything. In the breakout rooms you can propose activities, like working together to write a poem about the birthday girl/boy.
Decorations + Gifts
Beyond virtual backgrounds and delicious desserts, you can deck out the party space with cute decorations and surprise gifts. Again you can take this opportunity to #shopsmall and purchase from Etsy or artisan makers. Craft fairs like Renegade Craft and Unique Markets have all moved virtual. Check out their roundups of small businesses to support for your all your gift buying. Here are a few items on our wishlist.
