Dessert Goals Alumni: Jessie's Nutty Cup
Have you participated in Dessert Goals before. If so, when did you attend Dessert Goals?
Yes! NYC - March 2017, March 2019 & LA - November 2019
How did you get your start?
It all started when I wasn't happy with a random peanut butter cups recipe I tried that I had found online. And after doing some experimenting, friends were like, you should sell these! And the rest if history :)
In three words, how would you describe your brand?
Nutty, sophisticated, and handcrafted!
What’s your favorite treat to make on your menu? And why?
I love the Dark Sea Salt Cup. Its the perfect combination of sweet and salty.
What’s the best dessert you’ve ever eaten?
I think my favorite dessert of all time is Creme Brûlée... there’s just something about the perfection of custard under the crunch of a perfectly tin layer of burnt sugar... my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Where do you find your inspiration for creating new treats?
From all around me, be it desserts on restaurant menus, recipes, friends' suggestions... there are exciting flavor combinations everywhere!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a food business?
Find a community of like minded food entreprenuers. When I first started I felt very alone and hopeless. It wasn't until I took a food business specific entrepreneurship class that I suddenly realized i wasn't alone in all of this. I am still in touch with some of the people from that class 5 years ago today, and I can honestly say I don't think Jessie's Nutty Cups would be where it is today if it wasn't for them and their support.
If you can, please share a step-by-step recipe or some baking tips for our readers.
Make your own peanut butter!!!! Roast raw peanuts in the oven 325F for 15-20 min. Let them cool. Put peanuts in a food processor or blender and let them grind down until smooth and creamy.
